The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) and the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZAAC) have confirmed the arrest of a Southern Africa Regional Anti-Corruption (SARCO) official for fraud and extortion.
The arrested fifty-year-old Edmond Nzombe is said to have approached Martha Mutambuti of Mikando Housing Development Trust in October 2024 and posed as a member of the ZRP and an anti-corruption official.
He offered to assist the complainant in a housing stand’s repossession case, claiming he was working with officers from ZACC.
The suspect demanded USD5000.00 but was given USD 1000.00.
In May 2025, the suspect recently requested more money from the complainant. A joint operation was then conducted by ZACC and ZRP, leading to the arrest of Nzombe after he received USD 200.00 from the complainant.
ZRP and ZACC reiterate to the public to take decisive action against any criminal elements who extort or defraud the public while falsely claiming to be members or officials of the two institutions, and urge the public to report all acts of corruption.
