The Southern African Development Community (SADC) Transfrontier Conservation Areas (TFCA) International Conference kicked off in Harare today.
The five-day event, themed “Transfrontier Conservation Areas-25 years of cooperation for regional integration and sustainable development,” brought together Heads of State, traditional leaders, and experts from 16 member states.
As delegates gather, they reflect on the significant strides made in conserving biodiversity, promoting sustainable livelihoods, and fostering regional cooperation through TFCAs.
Over the past 25 years, SADC member states have worked tirelessly to protect and preserve the region’s rich natural heritage.

The conference aimed to build on this success, exploring ways further to integrate conservation efforts with sustainable development and ecotourism.
Participants share knowledge, best practices, and innovative solutions to address the complex challenges facing the region’s wildlife and ecosystems.
Through TFCAs, SADC has created vast, interconnected conservation areas that transcend national borders.
These areas not only provide a safe haven for wildlife but also support local communities and promote regional cooperation.

As the conference progresses, delegates emphasise the importance of continued collaboration and commitment to conservation.
The SADC TFCA Conference is a powerful reminder of the region’s dedication to conservation and sustainable development.
