The 2015 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying match between Namibia and Zimbabwe will be held behind closed doors on Thursday, at the request of the Namibian team, the Brave Warriors.
According to a statement from the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA), the Namibians have requested that no fans attend the match at Orlando Stadium in Johannesburg.
“Please note our away match between Namibia and Zimbabwe scheduled for Thursday will be played behind closed doors. No fans will be allowed for both teams,” the ZIFA statement read.
However, fans will be allowed to attend the return leg on Monday, when Zimbabwe will be the home team at the same venue.
“However, our home match scheduled for Monday will be open to all fans,” the statement added.
Both teams have been forced to play at an alternative venue in South Africa due to the lack of CAF-approved stadiums in their respective countries.
