The Women’s Coalition of Zimbabwe (WCoZ) has celebrated women’s empowerment and advocated for gender equality in the agricultural sector.

Speaking during the Zimbabwe Agricutural show in Harare, WCoZ National Coordinator Ms Mercy Jaravani emphasized the organization’s efforts to promote equal representation and participation of women and men in all spheres of society.

She noted that this initiative aligns with the Zimbabwean Constitution’s mandates for gender balance and equal representation.

“This initiative aligns with the mandates outlined in Sections 17, 56, and 80 of the Zimbabwean Constitution, which call for the State to implement measures ensuring gender balance and equal representation.”

The Coordinator added, “Our work is rooted in the belief that empowering women is essential for sustainable development and social justice.”

The event showcased women farmers’ innovative practices and contributions to the sector, including organic farming techniques and sustainable agricultural practices.

Workshops and discussions equipped women with skills and knowledge to thrive in agriculture, reinforcing their key role in driving economic growth.

Women’s Coalition Intern Sonata Manganda said the agricultural show celebrated women’s achievements in agriculture while underscoring the ongoing struggle for gender equality in Zimbabwe.

“The agricultural show not only celebrated the achievements of women in agriculture but also reinforced the ongoing struggle for gender equality in Zimbabwe.

With a united front, the commitment to empowering women in all spheres of society remains steadfast, paving the way for a more equitable future.”
