Capevalley Properties, a property development company, has been fined $200 for operating as an estate agent without proper registration. The company, represented by lawyer Tafadzwa Ngoro, was charged with violating the Estates Agents Act.
The case, brought before Harare magistrate Ruth Moyo, involved the unauthorized sale of residential stands at Swallowfield Farm in Norton. The farm’s joint owners, Isaac and Amos Chiduku, had contracted Capevalley Properties to manage the development and sale of the stands.
However, an investigation by the Estate Agents Council of Zimbabwe revealed that Capevalley Properties was not registered to operate as a real estate agent. Despite this, the company collected fees from clients and landowners, prompting the council to file a police report.
The court found Capevalley Properties guilty of illegal operation and imposed the fine. The case highlights the importance of proper registration and compliance with regulations in the real estate industry.
