THE US is actively pursuing enhanced business connections with Zimbabwe and holds the belief that Zimbabwe is a valuable business ally, as conveyed by the new US Ambassador to the country, Pamela Tremont.
Speaking to journalists in Harare today, at her first press briefing, after presenting her credentials to President Mnangagwa on Wednesday, Ambassador Tremont emphasized that the US sees Zimbabwe as a good business partner and is committed to deepening the partnership in the business sector.
She highlighted the importance of collaboration to improve the investment climate in Zimbabwe, expand economic opportunities, forge stronger business linkages, and attract investors to leverage Zimbabwe’s educated labor force and long-term potential.
“In my conversation with President Mnangagwa, I offered to collaborate on improving the investment climate in Zimbabwe to expand economic opportunities for people and communities, forge stronger business linkages, and attract investors to look closely at Zimbabwe’s educated labour force and long-term potential.
“But I can’t do this alone. The Government and people of Zimbabwe need to share their story that Zimbabwe is a good business partner that combats corruption; provides certainty in regulatory, monetary, and tax policy; and enjoys unbiased rule of law,” she said.
Ambassador Tremont also mentioned the US commitment to supporting Zimbabwe’s development by providing financial assistance. Specifically, the US will be providing US$62 million to Zimbabwe to mitigate the effects of the El Nino-induced drought, demonstrating a tangible commitment to addressing pressing challenges in the country.
In addition to the focus on business linkages, Ambassador Tremont emphasized the US’s commitment to supporting Zimbabweans in their pursuit of a government of the people and a more democratic and prosperous future. She highlighted the goal of continuing to support Zimbabweans as they work towards building a more democratic and prosperous future for their nation.
Ambassador Pamela Tremont’s statements underscore the United States’ interest in strengthening its relationship with Zimbabwe, particularly in the areas of business partnerships and support for the country’s development. Her emphasis on collaboration and support signals a positive outlook for future bilateral relations between the two countries.
